CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four tournaments and 32 home games highlight the 2010 schedule for the Charlotte 49ers softball team. Included in those home games are matchups with North Carolina State, UNC-Chapel Hill, St. John’s and Seton Hall.
Charlotte’s season opens on Feb. 13 with the Niners hosting the 49er Round Robin Tournament that includes St. John’s, Liberty and East Tennessee State. The following weekend, the Niners host St. Francis (Pa.), America East Regular Season Champions – Stony Brook and Toledo in the First Pitch Classic.
Following the duo of tournaments, the 49ers travel to Columbia, S.C. for a single game against South Carolina before returning home for the final home tournament of the season, the Green and White Tournament, which includes Marshall, Seton Hall and Boston University.
“We could not be more excited to show off our new stadium seats to our fans with 14 home games in the month of February to go along with great competition scheduled from the Big East and Conference USA,” added softball head coach Aimee DeVos.
Furman comes to town for a double-dip on March 2nd before the 49ers travel to California for the Sacramento State Hornet Round Robin with two games against the host school and San Jose State.
Doubleheaders against regional schools; Winthrop, Appalachian State and Garner-Webb, follow the trip out west and precede showdowns with Atlantic Coast Conference members; North Carolina State (March 18) and UNC Chapel-Hill (March 23) at the D.L. Phillips Softball Diamond.
“Our schedule will most certainly prepare us for conference games,” said DeVos. “With non-conference rivals; South Carolina, NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill, prior to the opening of Atlantic 10 play at home in March.”

Charlotte, the 2009 A-10 Regular Season Runner-up, faces Massachusetts, the 2009 A-10 Regular Season and Tournament Champions, on April 9-10 in Amherst, Mass. Last season the Niners and Minutewomen split the season series.
Eight straight home games follow the UMASS games as Charlotte faces Rhode Island, non-conference opponent USC-Upstate, St. Joseph’s and Temple from April 11-18 before the final non-conference road game of the season against Elon on April 22.
The final home-stand of the season pits the 49ers against La Salle and UNC Greensboro before Charlotte wraps up the regular season with road doubleheaders against George Washington, Fordham and Saint Louis.
The 2010 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament will be held in Amherst, Mass on UMASS’ campus from May 12-15. Last season, Charlotte lost to St. Joseph's for a chance to make it to consecutive A-10 Championship Finals.
The 49ers face teams from 12 different conferences including a season-high four opponents from the Southern Conference. Last season, Charlotte finished the year 33-16 overall with a 14-4 A-10 record. The Niners won 11 of 15 road games and posted a 21-11 home record.
