CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball program and head coach Aimee DeVos announced the signing of four players to national letters-of-intent for the 2011 season. The student-athletes that will be joining the Niners squad are Chelsea Ingersoll of Charlotte, N.C., Jalisa Rock of Montebello, Calif., Tess Swing of Lexington, N.C. and Katie Watkins of Knightdale, N.C.
Ingersoll, a local product from Butler HS, plays catcher and third base for Butler, who won back-to-back 4A State Championships from 2007-2008 and posted a 29-0 record in 2008, while being ranked No. 2 in the nation by the USA Today Poll.
In 2007, Ingersoll was the only freshman to letter on the championship team. Last season as a junior and starting catcher for Butler, Ingersoll was selected to several honors including; NCSW 4A Catcher of the Year, NCSW 4A All-Conference First Team, All-Charlotte Observer First Team, All-Mecklenburg County First Team, NCSCA All-State District Six (4A), NCSCA All-District, MMHW Player of the Year and Butler’s Offensive Slugger Award.
As well as playing for Butler, Ingersoll plays for the Lady Blues in ASA, who won the 2009 ASA State Championship and finished seventh at the ASA/USA National Championship for the Lady Blues Elite squad.
At Butler, Ingersoll is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the A-Honor Roll since 2002.
Rock attends Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary and plays shortstop and second base for her high school. Mainly playing as a shortstop, Rock has been a three-starter since her freshman season and served as team captain during her sophomore and junior year.
To go along with her captain duties, Rock was selected as the team MVP the past three seasons and picked up several league honors by being named to the CIF All-League First Team as a freshman and junior and second team as a sophomore.

In her junior season, Rock was named Arroyo Tournament MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Tournament. Her ASA team is Victory USA.
Swing, a pitcher, attends North Davidson in Lexington, N.C. During Swing’s sophomore season, she picked up All-State, All-District and All-Conference honors. In her junior year she repeated those honors and split the Pitcher of the Year award. She also plays for the Carolina Attitude ASA team.
In her sophomore and junior year, Swing received an academic letter for achieving a high GPA.
Another pitcher joining Charlotte next season is Watkins from East Wake HS in Knightdale, N.C. Watkins has started every year at East Wake and earned team MVP honors all three years. To go along with her team awards, Watkins has been named to the Greater Neuse River All-Conference (4-A) team three times. Besides playing for East Wake, Watkins also plays for the Triangle Lightning ASA team.
At East Wake, Watkins is the Student Council President and an office and member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Charlotte opens the 2010 regular season, when they host the 49er Round Robin Tournament on Feb. 13 and faces St. John’s, Liberty and East Tennessee State during the weekend.
