Greenville, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team dropped its first dual match of the season in a 7-0 loss at Furman Friday.

Furman won the doubles point with victories in all three positions. Down 2-6, the Paladin pair of Laura Gioia and Christina Swindall rallied to defeat Ana Spivakovsky and Koran Fleming 8-6 in position one. The tandem of Lauren Osborne and Natasa Manojlovic topped Yudeshnee Pillay and Candace Cunningham 8-3 at number-two doubles, and the duo of Monica Arguello and Jessica Preeg defeated Kimber Redfern and Yana Stoeva 8-2.

In singles play, the Lady Paladins swept all seven matches, with Swindall rallying to take a close match against Candace Cunningham to finish the 7-0 match with scores of 6-4, 6-4.

With the win, the Lady Paladins improve to 2-2 on the season, while Charlotte falls to 0-1. The Niners take on Alabama Saturday afternoon back in Greenville, S.C.
