Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team swept visiting Winston-Salem State University 7-0 this afternoon at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex in Charlotte. It was their first dual match victory of the season. The women move to 1-2. Winston-Salem State's women drop to 0-3.
Charlotte lost only three games in the nine matches to take the victory.
It was the first win in dual match play for each 49er on the courts this season.
"This was a great home opener for us," said Niners women's coach Michaela Quinn. "This was a nice confidence builder for our ladies and I am pleased that we got the win today."
Quinn did not stray from the plan, keeping the doubles partners together as she has all through spring play, all delivering wins early in the 90-minute match.
Ana Spivakovsky and Koren Fleming outpaced Shannon Loughran and Laken Joyce 8-2 at number-one doubles. In the other two spots, Candace Cunningham and Yudeshnee Pillay, as well as Kimber Redfern and Yana Stoeva each went 8-0 in their doubles matches.
Spivakovsky, Pillay, Fleming, Redfern, Stoeva and Cunningham all won in singles play, from one to six.
The ladies host Gardner-Webb Tuesday at 2 p.m.
