Monroeville, Pa. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team, seeded fifth, won their opening round match over 12th-seeded Saint Joseph's 4-0 at the 26th Annual Atlantic 10 Championships at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pa. In the match, sophomore Gabi Vergara tied the school record for doubles wins in a season with her 26th victory of the season. Charlotte is now 14-4 on the season.

The Niners captured the doubles point when Vergara and senior partner Koren Fleming won 8-0 at number three. The duo extended the school record for doubles wins by a pair with 25 wins. Fleming is now tied for third all-time with the 25 wins.

Charlotte's top pair of Yudeshnee Pillay and Ana Spivakovsky got to 20 wins together with an 8-0 win at number one to clinch the doubles point.

In singles play, Charlotte got straight-sets wins by Andrea Rivera (number three), Kimber Redfern (number five) and Vergara at number six to secure the win and advance.

Redfern won her 22nd singles match of the season, putting her into a tie for eighth place all-time in singles victories in a season. Rivera's win was her 19th of the season.

The Niners take on four seed Rhode Island tonight at 7:45 p.m. at the tournament, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals Saturday.
