Spivakovsky and Pillay Advance to Top Doubles Flight Finals in Charleston

Niners Doubles Teams Find Success in Opening Weekend

Charleston, S.C. - Charlotte's top doubles pair of Yudeshnee Pillay and Ana Spivakovsky won two matches and advanced to the finals in the top flight to lead the Charlotte 49ers women's tennis in day two at the College of Charleston Invitational tournament this weekend at Patriot's Point.

The duo defeated Schutte and Pletcher of Charleston Southern in the opening round and took out Fanney and McDevitt of Davidson 8-5 to advance to the finals, where they will face Lesosky and Borza of College of Charleston on Sunday morning for the top-flight title.

In the second flight of doubles teams, Koren Fleming and Gabi Vergara defeated Peterson and Contreras of Barry 8-5, but fell in the semifinal to Dowse and Mulligan of College of Charleston 8-0 in their next match. The pair will play for third place against North Florida's Van Lierop and Holton on Sunday morning.

In the third flight, Candace Cunningham and Kimber Redfern lost in their opening match to Rauh and Galainena of Davidson 9-7. The pair bounced back and won its next match to advance to the fifth-place match on Sunday morning. They defeated Soler and Sachs of East Carolina 8-2 and face Verlin and Dicconson of Davidson Sunday.

In round-robin play, Charlotte's freshmen pair of Andrea Rivera and Julia Junker won both of their Saturday doubles matches together. The rookie tandem upended Petkova and Shalders of Coastal Carolina 8-0 in the early morning and dispatched Burgoon and S. Schwartz of College of Charleston 8-1. They will face Iyengar of ECU and Krook of UNF on Sunday morning.

 

 

Saturday's singles results are as of yet unavailable. Four Niners were involved in semifinal matches in various flights.
