Davidson, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team took to the courts for the second time this fall in competition at the Davidson Invitational this weekend.
The tournament was a round robin format, pitting the Niners against Elon, UNC Greensboro and Davidson.
In singles competition, sophomore Andrea Rivera and senior Kimber Redfern were able to win a pair of matches over the course of the weekend. Rivera won in straight sets over Laura Graybill of Elon and needed a third set tiebreak to take out Stephanie Synn of Davidson. She also lost a straight-sets decision to Valerie Behr of UNC Greensboro.
Redfern took out Jessica Margolis of Elon in a 6-0, 6-2 decision, and defeated Teresa Wang of Davidson 7-6 (10-5), 7-5. She lost in a second-set tiebreak to UNCG's Lucy Dougherty.
Alex Zinn, Gabi Vergara, Candace Cunningham and Iveta Guneva all won a singles match in the tournament.
In double play, the Niners finished 5-4 for the weekend. The pair of Zinn and Rivera won both of its doubles matches, as did Cunningham and Anna Ekelund. The fifth double win went to Vergara and Redfern, who won 8-3 over a pair from Elon.
Select members of the squad will play in the ITA Regional Tournament at Wake Forest, beginning Thursday.
