Philadelphia, Pa. - Two Charlotte women's tennis student-athletes and three track and field performers were among those named to the Atlantic 10 Conference's weekly Honor Roll. Senior Yudeshnee Pillay was the women's tennis Player of the Week, while sophomore Jason Roberts and senior Lamarra Currie earned the men's and women's track Performer of the Week honors. Rookies of the Week went to Andrea Rivera for women's tennis and Jake Deaton for men's track.

Pillay won both ends of her only match this week at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Wofford on Wednesday. She took singles match, 6-0, 6-1, which marked the 17th-straight victory this spring. She is 10-0 from first flight and 7-0 from second flight in her string of wins the victory improves her singles record to 23-3 this season and with the 8-0 doubles victory, she is now 18-7 overall in doubles matches.

Rivera won her No. 3 singles match and No. 2 doubles match this week in Charlotte's win over Wofford on Apr. 8. She is now 18-8 in singles play with a 12-2 mark in the spring. She posted a 23-7 overall in doubles play, which puts her in a tie for fifth all-time in a single season at Charlotte.

Charlotte will head to Monroeville, Pa. for the Atlantic 10 Championships, beginning Friday.

With his 166-2 toss in the discus throw, Roberts snapped the school record in the event. The distance was good enough for a third-place finish at the Sea Ray Relays on Apr. 10 and breaks a six-year old record set by Matt Rausch in 2002.

Deaton turned in career-best throws in both the discus and shot put at the Sea Ray Relays on Apr. 10. He notched a mark of 159-11in the discus throw to finish eighth, then turned around and posted a personal-best 58-1 ¼ in the shot put to finish seventh.

Currie turned in an NCAA-regional qualifying performance in the 100m dash by winning the event in a wind-aided time of 11.25 at the Sea Ray Relays on Apr. 10. Her performance is the fastest mark in the event in the Atlantic 10 this year.

 

 

Selected track performers will travel to the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J., while others go to the War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Alabama this weekend.
