Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte women's tennis head coach Michaela Gorman has announced the addition of Chelsea Mills as assistant coach for the team this fall. Mills recently earned a Masters of Sports Leadership from Northeastern University while an assistant at Division III Tufts University since 2007.
"Chelsea will be a great addition to our program," said Gorman. "Her experiences as a player and as an assistant at Tufts University have taught her a great deal about the game of tennis and working with student athletes. I look forward to her starting with the team in August."
A Wellesley, Mass. native, Mills has been a tennis instructor since 2000, including during summers during her collegiate career at Division I Bucknell of the Patriot League, where she was a Student Athlete Advisory Committee member and an academic honor roll student for four seasons and dean's list honoree for six semesters.
In addition to her coaching duties while at Tufts, Mills also became certified as an athletic trainer.
"I am very excited to begin working with the team and under Coach Gorman," said Mills. "I am looking forward to contributing to taking an already impressive program to the next level!"
As a player, Mills is currently fourth on Bucknell's career singles wins list, with a final record of 73-35 in four seasons. In doubles play, she is fifth all time with a 50-15 career record. She earned a Second-Team All-Patriot League Singles selection in her senior season of 2006, when she was a co-captain for the Bison squad. She was also an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete in 2004 and 2005.
Charlotte finished 16-5 in the 2009 women's tennis season, tying their best season since joining the Atlantic 10. Charlotte broke numerous school records for doubles victories and finished third in the league, their third top-three finish in four seasons as a member.
