CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina Central University sophomore Mark Davis has won the men's high jump event for the second time in the past three weeks, this time at the Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday (Feb. 2). A native of Cape Coral, Fla., Davis leaped a season-best 7-feet, 1.75-inches (2.18m) to claim top honors as the lone competitor to clear the seven-foot mark. Donte Nall of North Carolina was second (2.08m/6-9.75) followed by Bryan Turner of Florida A&M (2.03m/6-8.0) in third place. Davis also won the high jump two weeks ago at the Clemson Invitational and placed second last week at the Penn State Invitational. NCCU junior Latasha Jones captured second place in the women's shot put with a toss of 12.35 meters (40-6.25), while junior Jessica Mills also placed second in the women's triple jump with a distance of 11.86 meters (38-11.0). NCCU senior sprinter Christopher Davis posted the second-fastest time of 6.75 seconds in the preliminaries of the men's 60m dash, but settled for third place in the event finals with a time of 6.80 seconds. |
