NCCU POSTS TWENTY-THREE TOP TEN FINISHES AT COASTAL CAROLINA INVITATIONAL

CONWAY, S.C. -- Sophomore Brandon Jones ran to victory in the men's 800-meter run to headline 23 top 10 performances by North Carolina Central University during the 2008 Coastal Carolina University Invitational on March 14-15 in Conway, S.C.

Jones won the 800m event with a time of 1:54.12, and was followed closely behind by teammate Rashaad Lee, who placed third in 1:55.60.

NCCU also won the men's 4x400m relay, beating out the nearest competitors from Winston-Salem State and East Carolina with a time of 3:17.33. The NCCU "B" squad placed fourth in the relay race with a time of 3:20.77.

NCCU also boasted two of the three fastest sprinters at the meet, as Christopher Davis finished second in the 100m dash in 10.61 seconds and Jeff Rankins placed third in 10.78 seconds.

In the men's 200m dash, the Eagles had two of the four finishers, as Maurice Gailey placed third (21.61), followed by a fourth-place effort by Davis (21.67).

In the field, junior Will Scott placed second in the triple jump (15.02m/49-3.5) and third in the long jump (6.69m/21-11.5) to pace NCCU. Andrae Turner finished third in the discus throw (48.25m/158-04) and Mark Davis placed third in the high jump (2.10m/6-10.75) to round out the top three performances for the Eagles.

Other NCCU student-athletes in the top 10 were Brandy Cox in the discus throw (7th/39.49m), Eric Smalls in the shot put (9th/15.14m), Latisha Jones in the long jump (5th/5.56m), Jessica Mills in the triple jump (8th/11.55m) and in the long jump (10th/5.29m), Charles Lindsay in the 110m hurdles (4th/14.71), Chris Hall in the 400m dash (8th/49.85), Omar Robinson in the 400m dash (10th/50.23), Saqenda Dallas in the 200m dash (7th/25.50), the women's 4x100m relay (4th/48.02), and the women's 4x400m relay (4:03.16).
