RALEIGH, N.C. - Four North Carolina Central University student-athletes and two NCCU relay teams earned top 10 finishes at the 2008 Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University on March 28-29. Three of the four top finishers for the Eagles were field specialists. Sophomore Mark Davis (Cape Coral, Fla.) was the top finisher for NCCU, placing fourth in the high jump with a leap of 2.05 meters (6' 8.75"). Eagles senior Eric Smalls (Raleigh, N.C.) placed sixth in the discus throw with a toss of 46.96 meters (154' 1"), while also claiming 14th place in the shot put (15.16m/49' 9.0"). Junior Will Scott (Charlotte, N.C.) placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.74 meters (45' 1.0"), and also finished 17th in the long jump (6.58m/21' 7.25"). The fourth Eagle to record a top 10 finish was sophomore Brandon Jones (Lynchburg, Va.), who placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.08. Both of NCCU's 4x400m relay squads earned top 10 finishes. The Eagles placed second with a time of 3:16.98, only three-tenths of a second behind the event winner from Maryland Eastern Shore. The NCCU women placed eighth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:02.97. |
