NCCU HOSTS MIDWEST BASEBALL ACADEMY 2008 SPRING TRAINING CAMP

DURHAM, NC - During a six week period in the month of December, the North Carolina Central baseball team along with head coach Henry White volunteered some of their time to participate in a baseball training camp for children in the first grade through the 12th grade.

The Midway Baseball Academy's training camp is a unique concept that provides young players with advanced hitting and pitching programs, while also providing instruction by the areas top high school and college coaches. With a player-coach ratio of 6-to-1, each player gets plenty of individual attention in a small group atmosphere. In addition to unbeatable instruction by the areas best high school and college coaches, players get a preseason tune-up that helps them enter team practice in mid-season form.

The Eagles baseball team assisted in the six-week training program as part of a fundraiser for the 2008 season. The team was involved in supporting the coaches with training the young athletes in the categories of hitting and pitching.

"This was a wonderful program," White said. "The kids participating had the opportunity to work in small groups where they received the attention needed. Our baseball student athletes were also able to come out and assist the coaches as well as the participating players. We had a great time, and I already have people asking me when the next camp will be."

The Eagles are quickly approaching this season's opening game, which will be held at Savannah State University as part of Tigers HBCU Classic on Friday, Feb. 22. NCCU's first home game will be against the Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus College Sunday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. For more information on Eagles Baseball visit www.NCCUEaglePride.com.
