GAME NOTES: NCCU vs. Livingstone (Feb. 16)

THE GAME: The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University is playing their last game of the season. The Eagles take on former CIAA foe Livingstone College (6-17). Opening tip-off is set for 2:00 P.M. NCCU (5-20). NCCU defeatd LC back on Jan. 16, 2007 74-52 and again on Feb. 10, 2007 63-49.

This will also be senior night as NCCU says goodbye to two senior members of the women's basketball team: Casey Daniel and Jennifer Hukill.

North Carolina Central Series Note: The Lady Eagles and Lady Blue Bear will meet for the 55th time. NCCU leads the series 31-23.

EAGLES IN TRANSTION IN DIVISION I: North Carolina Central University, located in Durham, N.C., is in its first season of NCAA Division I competition. The Lady Eagles will be eligible for the NCAA post-season at the end of the four year reclassification process in the 2011-12 campaign.

LAST TIMEOUT: North Carolina Central University senior guard Jennifer Hukill broke the school's single-game record with nine three-point field goals to lead the Lady Eagles to their first road win of the season, a 67-62 victory over Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Friday.

Hukill, a 5-6 native of Greensboro, N.C., scored a career-high 33 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field, including 9-of-15 from long range, and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. After scoring 13 points before the break, the sharp-shooter got hot after intermission by connecting on 6-of-8 trifectas for 20 second-half points.

Hukill becomes the 11th Lady Eagle in school history to record 33 points or more in a game. She broke the single-game three-point field goal record of eight, previously held by Zakia VanHoose (vs. Winston-Salem State on Feb. 19, 2002) and Ardrina Porter (vs. USC-Aiken on Nov. 14, 1998). NCCU (5-20) also received solid contributions from sophomore forward Latoya Bennett with 11 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, junior guard Tonia Roundtree with seven points, five boards and five steals, and junior point guard LaVonna Hailey with 11 assists. Lincoln (5-13) was topped by Sharell McMillan with 21 points, while DeJuanna Mosley (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Tanina Cook (12 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-doubles in the loss.

NCCU plays its final game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 16, against Livingstone College starting at 2 p.m. inside McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium in Durham, N.C. Lady Eagle seniorsCasey Daniel and Hukill will be honored after the game.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN, AND AGAIN: The Lady Eagles are on the road for majortity of the season. Since becoming a Division I Independent, NCCU will travel to Tennessee, Ohio, Flordia, Pennsylvania (twice), Georgia, Maryland (four times), West Virginia, and of course North Carolina.

LOOKING AT LIVINGSTONE : Valentine's Day got a little sweeter for the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University (17-7, 13-3 CIAA) as they routed Livingstone College 72-52 on the road, extending their winning streak to five games. Despite attempting just 47 shots, JCSU connected on 27 of those for a season best 57% from the floor.

Most of the offensive damage was done in the first half as the Lady Golden Bulls outscored Livingstone 33-18. The team held the Lady Blue Bears to just 19% shooting in the first stanza.

The second half was saw JCSU shoot an amazing 63% from the field. JCSU controlled a 34-point advantage late in the second half. Every player dressed in pink uniforms tonight received at least three minutes of playing time. Livingstone, (6-17, 5-11 CIAA) playing against the reserve,s was able to cut the lead to 20, but that would be as close as the score would get.

Kyria Buford (Charlotte, N.C.) continued her double-digit scoring ways with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Senior Ashley Chase (Baltimore, Md.) added 11 points while freshman Miryame Diouf (Powder Springs, Ga.) chipped in 10 points.

Turquoise Lane was the only Lady Blue Bear in double figures with 13 points. She also had six steals and five rebounds. Lina Brown added seven points off the bench, including six rebounds and four blocked shots.
