Karen Groll and Jenny Henderson
Henderson and Groll Named Academic All-District

May 22, 2008

GREELEY, Colo. - The College Sports Information Directors of America today released the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2008 Women's At-Large Teams and the University of Northern Colorado had two named to the First Team in District VII.

Jenny Henderson, a senior golfer from Fargo, North Dakota majoring in communication studies and Karen Groll, a women's tennis senior from Tucson, Arizona majoring in mathematics secondary education teaching both were honored on the First Team.

Henderson recently completed her stellar career at Northern Colorado, earning first-team all-Big Sky Conference honors his past season and placed 14th overall at the conference championship last month. She ended the regular season with a 77.78 stroke average, was the Bears' top finisher in nine events during the season and was named Big Sky Athlete of the Week three times.

Groll helped lead the Bears' to their first-ever Big Sky Tournament berth. She quadrupled her win total from her junior season to her senior year and served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this past academic year.

Both student-athletes received their degrees from the University of Northern Colorado two weeks ago and their names will now be forwarded to the Academic All-America ballot, which will be released in a few weeks.
