FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Northern Colorado freshman Terrence McGaughy posted a pair of NCAA regional qualifying times to lead the track & field team at the Ram Open Saturday.

 

McGaughy won the 100 meters with a time of 10.47 and the 200 meters in 21.22 to put his name on the list of qualified athletes for the NCAA regional championship. He is the first student-athlete at Northern Colorado to qualify for NCAA post-season at the Division I level.

 

Several other Bears posted qualifying times for the Big Sky Conference Championship which will be held at Sacramento State. Freshman Abby Weedor finished third in the 100 meters, clocking a 12.24 to qualify, while sophomore Justine Sandersfeld qualified in her second event after placing second in the 200 with a time of 25.05. Sophomore Hunter Hoekstra also qualified in the men's 400 meter hurdles after crossing the tape in 54.23.

 

Freshman Kelly Coomes improved upon her qualifying time in the 100 hurdles, running a 14.39 to place second. Senior Ashley Stec placed second in the 400 hurdles, finishing behind her own coach, Cathleen Campbell, as Stec clocked a 1:03.91.

 

Both 4x400 meter relay teams were again victorious as the women's quartet of Jillian Hoblitt, Lisa Drew, Lauren Iseman and Keira Moczulski ran a 3:57.39 and the men's four-some of Marty Wittmer, Travis Stanford, Collins Effler and Tyler Hoerner combined for a 3:17.13. The women's 4x100 of Stec, Sandersfeld, Hoblitt and Coomes placed third in 48.07 while the men's team of Richard Mattison, Effler, Hoerner and McGaughy ran a 41.39 to finish second.

 

Senior Jeff Vaden was also a double winner on the afternoon, winning the 110 meter hurdles in 14.97 and the long jump at 22-7.

 

Next weekend, the Bears return to Fort Collins for the annual Jack Christiansen Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
