LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Northern Colorado could never get its bats going in the first of two games against No. 15 Nebraska as the Bears fell 10-0 Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Bears move to 7-16 on the season, while the Cornhuskers improve to 18-3-1.

 

Northern Colorado tallied just five hits in the contest and committed three errors, while Nebraska scored 10 runs on nine hits with one error.

 

Things looked good in the first inning, when senior pitcher Jon Klausing retired the Huskers in order, but went south quickly as they scored a pair in the second inning and six in the third. In the second NU tallied two runs on one hit with one NC error and they scored six runs on six hits the next frame.

 

Klausing lasted just the three innings, taking the loss to move to 1-3 on the year. He surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits, walking two and striking out one. Utility player Cody Henry threw the next four innings for the Bears, giving up two runs (none earned) on two hits and walking three. Matthew Dudley, pitching for the first time this year, pitched the final stanza walking three in six batters faced giving up no runs and no hits.

 

Senior catcher Erik Whinery notched two of the Bears' five hits, going 2-for-4. Sophomore Phil Santucci, who entered the game midway through, hit a double, while seniors Cory Morales and Chad Murray had the remaining two hits in the game.

 

Northern Colorado and Nebraska meet for the sixth and final time this season Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. (Central).
