Box Score

DALLAS, Texas - The Northern Colorado baseball team dropped its first game of a three-game series to Dallas Baptist in a game between two Division I Independents, falling 7-2 in the first-ever game between the two teams. The Bears move to 8-20 on the year, while the Patriots improve to 18-9.

DBU jumped out to an early lead, scoring one in the first and three in the second. The Bears were able to get back two runs in the fourth inning for the 4-2 score, but the Patriots added three in the bottom half of that inning for the final score of 7-2.

The scoring for the Bears started when Chad Murray led off the inning with a walk. Kevin Sandberg was hit by a pitch and both moved up 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt by Erik Whinery. Erik Hegstad then singled to left field to score both Murray and Sandberg.

Senior left-handed pitcher Jon Klausing started on the hill, throwing four innings. He gave up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits, walking one and striking out two. Senior Jason Banks pitched the final four innings, allowing just four hits and striking out seven.

Hegstad went 2-for-4 from the plate, while Andy Mees, Cory Morales, Murray and Sandberg each had one hit.

The two teams return to the diamond for a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (Central), noon (Mountain).
