Women's Golf In Seventh At Red Rocks



Northern Colorado senior Katie Avery, along with senior teammate Gina Rodriguez, is tied for 29th after the first day of the Red Rocks Invitational.

Northern Colorado's women's golf team is in seventh place after the first day of the Red Rocks Invitational tournament at Oak Creek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.

Six Big Sky teams are in the field, but the Bears' team total of 328 (+40) has them behind only Northern Arizona (314, +26) among conference teams. Big Sky members Portland State University (330, +42), Montana (331, +43), Montana State (331, +43) and Idaho State (357, +69) are also in the field.

The event will continue at 8 a.m. Sunday, March 2. Western Michigan (309, +21) heads into day two as the team to beat.

Individually, Northern Colorado seniors Katie Avery and Gina Rodriguez (81, +9) are in a group of 10 tied for 29th after the first day. Senior Jenny Henderson (82) is in 39th for the Bears, while junior Shayna Godfrey (84) is in 53rd, and junior Heather Daviner (85) is in 57th.

Eastern Michigan's Catherine Fortin is in first with a 1-over-73.
