Swimming Finishes Sixth At Second Conference Championship Of Year

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Northern Colorado swimming & diving team finished sixth at the 2008 Conference USA Championship as an invitational member. SMU won the title with a league record 926 points, while the Bears tallied 275 points.

Sophomore Nan Liu hit her third NCAA B qualifying standard of the meet, finishing second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.54, breaking her own school record of 2:00.57 from last season.

The quartet of Liu, Becca Getz, Katie Schmitt and Kati Falger finished fifth in the 400 freestyle relay, clocking a 3:32.06.

Schmitt also placed 12th in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.53 as SMU took six of the top eight spots in the race. Freshman Tori Gutt finished 11th in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:24.21.

Several swimmers will compete at the American Short Course Championship March 6-8 in Austin, Texas.
