Nott Named Third Team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame junior fencer Adrienne Nott (Pittsford, N.Y./Mendon) has been selected as a Third Team Academic All-American on the Women's At-Large Team by ESPN The Magazine in voting done by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The foilist becomes the 201st Academic All-American in Notre Dame history.

The at-large program includes women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling.

Prior to Nott's selection, a Notre Dame fencer had been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American on five other occasions with the last occurring in 1997. The prestigious Fighting Irish fencing program has produced two two-time Academic All-Americans in Bill Lester (1996 & 1997) and Heidi Piper (1991 & 1992). Claudette de Bruin copped Academic All-America honors in 1996.

Nott, who carries a 3.731 cumulative grade-point average as a Japanese major, is a three-time All-American in the women's foil. She earned first-team All-America accolades in 2007 and 2008. Nott placed third at the 2007 NCAAs and finished fourth at this season's NCAA Championship. The New York native was a sixth-place finisher at the 2006 NCAAs en route to garnering second-team All-America recognition as a freshman.

As a sophomore, she captured the Midwest Fencing Conference and NCAA Midwest Region titles. Nott is a three-time All-Midwest Fencing Conference performer and carries a regular-season career record of 170-22. This past season she posted a record of 69-10. The team co-captain is a two-time team MVP in the foil and a member of the U.S. Junior National Team in 2006.
