Irish Baseball Summer League Update #2

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
With almost all collegiate baseball summer leagues now approaching their respective midway point, many Notre Dame players have seen solid playing time for their respective squad. Below is an update on how the Irish are faring thus far.
Ryne Intlekofer, Cornejo Oaks (15-12-1, 3rd): Has played in 25 games and started 22 ... batting .250 (20-for-80) with 12 runs scored, three doubles, one triple and 11 RBI ... has also added six stolen bases in seven attempts ... tied for third on team in games played, third in hits, fourth in RBI, tied for third in stolen bases and tied for the team-lead in sac flies (2).
Matt Scioscia, Cornejo Oaks (15-12-1, 3rd): Has played in27 games and started 26 (at DH, C and 1B) ... batting .258 (25-for-97) with five runs scored, nine doubles and 19 RBI ... has also drawn eight walks ... leads the team in both doubles and RBI ... ranks second in hits and total bases (36) ... leads the league in doubles and ranks fourth in RBI.
Joe Spizzirri, MLB Urban Youth Academy (8-10, 5th): No stats available.
A.J. Pollock, Falmouth Commodores (12-13, 4th Western): Has started 22 games in the outfield and in the leadoff spot ... leads the team with a .382 batting average (34-for-89) ... also leads the club with 22 runs scored, 51 total bases, nine doubles and one triple (tied) ... second on team with 34 hits, two home runs (tied), 10 walks (tied) and four stolen bases ... ranks among the top five in the league in the following categories: hits (fifth), doubles (tied second), on-base percentage (fifth), slugging percentage (fourth), extra-base hits (tied fourth) and runs scored (third).
Ryan Sharpley, Hyannis Mets (16-10, 1st Western): Has pitched in five games, including one start ... stands 1-1 with a 5.14 earned run average in 14.0 innings of work ... has allowed 13 hits and eight earned runs ... struck out a team-best 24 and walked eight ... opponents are batting only .194 against him.
Herman Petzold, Florence RedWolves (25-10, 1st South): Has played in 30 games and started 26 games (predominantly at 2B) ... batting .260 (27-for-104) with 12 runs scored, five doubles, one home run and 17 RBI ... smacked a seventh inning, gamewinning two-run home run to lead the RedWolves past Columbia, 5-3, on June 24.
Cameron McConnell, Delaware Cows (11-13-1, 7th): Has appeared in six games and started each of them ... batting .250 (5-for-20) with a pair of doubles and one RBI ... started the season opener (W, 2-0 over Grand Lake Mariners) and went 2-for-2.
Billy Boockford, Hays Larks (23-12, 1st): Has started 32 games in right field ... leads the team in games started and ranks second in games played ... batting .256 (31-for-121) with two home runs and seven RBI ... third in runs scored (20) ... 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
Mick Doyle, Joplin Splashers (9-21, 6th): Has played in 24 games (stats not up-to-date) ... batting .268 (22-for-82) with 13 runs scored, two doubles and six RBI.
Steven Mazur, Hays Larks (23-12, 1st): Has appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen (serving as the team's closer) and made one start... sports a 3-0 record with a 1.17 earned run average and two saves ... has allowed 19 hits in 30.2 innings ... also struck out 47 and walked just nine, while opponents are hitting only .179 against him ... leads the league in strikeouts.
Greg Sherry, Vermont Mountaineers (15-13, 4th Northern): Has appeared in 23 games and started 21 (SS and 2B) ... batting .149 (11-for-74) with five runs scored, one double and six RBI ... 5-for-6 in stolen bases ... added 11 walks.
Eddy Mendiola, Geneva Red Wings (13-12, 4th West): Has appeared in 25 games and started 23 ... batting .271 (23-for-85) with 12 runs scored, five doubles and eight RBI ... also a 7-for-11 in stolen bases ... drawn 15 walks ... named to the Western Division All-Star team and earned the Tom Kenny Gold Glove Award (Defensive MVP).
