Six Events Completed In Day One Of Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - With one day in the books, the Notre Dame men's swimming and diving team found itself in fourth place through six events at the Ohio State Invitational. Minnesota led after Friday's competition at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion with 371 points, followed by Ohio State (318), Denver (514), and Notre Dame (89).

The meet resumes Saturday morning at 10 a.m. (ET). Live results will available throughout the day at UND.com.

Several season-best times were eclipsed by Irish swimmers during the day's preliminary and final heats.

200 Free Relay: Taking fifth place was the team of John Lytle, Andrew Hoffman, Thomas Van Volkenburg, and Danny Lutkus ... they finished with a time of 1:23.33.

500 Free: MacKenzie LeBlanc posted a 4:33.36 mark in the prelims, but bounced back with a time 4:30.67 and a 10th place finish ... it was the team's fastest time of the season in the event ... Michael Sullivan, who finished 18th, swam over two seconds faster in the finals (4:34.08) than he did during the preliminary session (4:36.30).

200 Individual Medley: The top three swimmers in the event for the Irish during the morning prelims were Ross Moore (1:53.27), Andrew MacKay (1:53.77), and Joseph Raycroft (1:54.99) ... Moore would place 21st to the tune of 1:53.62 in the finals, while his earlier time was a team-best.

 

 

50 Freestyle: Of the 66-swimmer field, Lytle was 14th with times of 20.92 and 21.03 in the prelims and finals, respectively ... it was the first sub-21.00 time of the year for Notre Dame ... Lytle last swam a sub-21.00 in the event during last season's BIG EAST Championships, finishing in 20.70 ... that time was the ninth-fastest ever in school history ... Hoffman was 19th by leaving the pool with times of 21.26 and 21.32 ... positioning himself for 23rd was Van Volkenburg with times of 21.28 and 21.38.

1-meter Diving: In 16th place, Michael Bulfin was able to earn points for the Irish with a score of 277.75.

400 Medley Relay: Ninth-place went to Joshua Nosal, Eric Swenson, Ray Toomey, and Hoffman ... they got in the scoring column with a time of 3:24.41 ... Notre Dame's `A' squad in the race suffered a disqualification.
