NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Notre Dame women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition with a third-place finish in the Notre Dame Invitational held at the Rolfs Aquatic Center on Saturday evening. The Irish finished with a score of 898.50, while Indiana went on to take the team title with 1108.5 points. Michigan took second with 1055 and Illinois finished fourth with 442 points.

Leading the way again for Notre Dame was freshman Sam Maxwell. Maxwell, who picked up an individual title during an earlier session in the 100 breaststroke, continued on to take the top spot in the 200 breaststroke. The field was a tight pack until Maxwell was able to break away from the group in the final turn. She finished with a time of 2:16.34.

"Sam had a great meet this weekend," assistant coach Joel White said. "She won both breaststrokes for us and it helped that she was relaxed for us. She's been a great freshman that has really stepped up lately and she's looking forward to getting some well-deserved rest."

Other top performances came from Christa Riggins and Amywren Miller in the 100 freestyle. The duo finished second and third, respectively, to bring in top points for the Irish. Riggins clocked in with a time of 51.63 while Miller finished right on her tail with a time of 51.76.

Casey Wagner swam a top time in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:43.28. The time was not only Wagner's season best for the junior as well as a season-best for the Irish. Along with being a top season time, it was also a NCAA `B' cut time.

"They (Notre Dame) finished up pretty well tonight," White said. "This meet has gotten some people out of the `tired funk' that we've been in. That's exactly what we needed to do. We're very excited about our meets next week (against Louisville and at Toledo). The
girls are looking forward to starting classes so they can get back into a rhythm and start pumping out some of their fastest times of the year. We're so close to being on the edge of making things click and seeing some great things happen."
