THIBODAUX, La. - Coach Chip Durham's infield is solidified by experience with seniors at the corners and options at several positions. Seniors Brandt Boudreaux and Patrick Thompson return to first base for Nicholls. Boudreaux is a top offensive producer for the Colonels, while Thompson is one of the top defensive first basemen in the league. Newcomer Kevin Persick (Zachary, La./Zachary), who will also compete for time at first, is a talented left-handed hitter who also plays middle linebacker on the Colonel football team. After spending most of 2007 at first base, senior Brett Hoeflich moves to the other corner to serve as the Colonel third basemen. Hoeflich will also be counted on heavily to drive in runs at the plate. At second base is senior Anthony Wray who moves to the middle infield after starting at third last season. Rounding out the infield for Nicholls is shortstop Keith Kulbeth, the only Colonel to play in all 55 games from last season. Kulbeth turned in a solid freshman campaign and is expected to pick up right where he left off last season. Senior Zac Bone should see time in the infield during his final campaign. Bone will be asked to play various positions on the field, as well as return to catcher. ###### |
