THIBODAUX, La. - Coming off of an exciting 9-8 victory over Louisiana College Wednesday night, the Colonel baseball team looks to ride recent momentum as it opens Southland Conference play this weekend, hosting Texas State in a three-game series.

The Colonels are led offensively by Keith Kulbeth and Brandt Boudreaux. Kulbeth has driven in a team-leading nine RBI, including three in his last four games, while Boudreaux is riding a seven-game hitting streak and batting .303 for Nicholls.

Freshman Seth Webster (1-0) will get the nod for Nicholls on Friday night. He picked up the Colonels' first win of the season two weeks ago over Murray State, striking out seven batters through five innings of work. Webster has a 1.08 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched.

Senior Bryan Myers is expected to start Saturday's game for the Colonels. In two appearances out of the pen this season, Myers has logged a 1.80 ERA in five innings pitched. The start will be Myers' first since the 2005 season after two years rehabilitating his arm from multiple surgeries.

Lance Dupuis (0-1), who has started the last two games at shortstop, will take the mound on Sunday. The senior has struck out 10 opposing batters this season, allowing just eight hits in 10 innings.

Nicholls has improved defensively as of late, committing just one error in each of the last four games, after starting the season averaging more than four per game.

The Bobcats hold a 30-27 series advantage, having swept Nicholls last season in San Marcos.
