THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonels followed up yesterday's full pads practice with helmets and shoulder pads today for 16 periods as opposed to the usual 20.

"Our practices so far have had a very high intensity level and been very physical, so we backed off today to have more of a mental practice," said head coach Jay Thomas.

"We are a third of the way through our spring drills, and as a coach I could not be more pleased with how the guys have looked so far. I know the coaches share the same sentiment."

The Colonels used their 16 five minute practice periods to fine tune certain aspects of their game with the offense continuing to focus on their passing game, while the defense worked on red zone situations. Special teams worked on extra points and kickoff return during their on the practice fields today.

Nicholls will have off tomorrow, and will come back on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

The annual spring game is set for Thursday April 24 at 7 p.m. in John L. Guidry Stadium. Nicholls athletic department will host Colonel Fest on Saturday April 19 in conjunction with baseball's home contest against in-state rival Northwestern State.

An official start time of Colonel Fest is still being determined, however the event will feature a band and a cooking contest. The cooking contest will feature a jambalaya division and a miscellaneous bracket. Anyone wishing to enter a team in the cook off should contact Norby Chabert at 985-493-2516.

Tickets for Colonel Fest are $10.00 and the ticket will allow for admission to football practice that day and admittance to the baseball game. All children under 13 get in free.
