THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonels will travel to Hammond, La. on Saturday to take on the Lions of Southeastern La. at 2:30 p.m. on Cox Sports Television to close out the regular season.

"We always play each other tough, no matter what our records are. They (SELA) have a very talented core, and their record is very deceiving," said head coach Jay Thomas.

The Colonels (6-4, 3-3) won last year's contest 14-10 in John L. Guidry Stadium, and have been victorious in the last seven games in the series. In the 14-10 victory in 2006, junior quarterback Vincent Montgomery and senior fullback Broderick Cole combined for 196 yards and a touchdown.

The Lions (2-8, 1-5) have lost five consecutive games, and their last win was against Stephen F. Austin (0-10, 0-6) on October 6 by the score of 21-3. Southeastern La. features one of the conference's top running backs with junior Jay Lucas who has over 1,000 yards for the season and is averaging 106.5 a game. Lucas, whose rushing yards and average a game ranks second in the conference, has 10 rushing touchdowns to go along with 50 receptions for 479 yards and three receiving scores.

Nicholls ended their three game slide last week with their 52-28 win over Texas State last Saturday. In the game, Cole became the sixth player in school history to have 2,000 career yards rushing. The New Orleans, La. native is currently fifth on the all-time rushing list with 2,048 career yards, and only needs four yards to surpass Colt Colletti for the fourth spot on the list. Cole also needs three points to pass up Adam Diel on the all-time scoring list for fifth place.

Southeastern La. had Sam Houston State on the ropes last week, but could not punch it into the end zone from the goal line in the fourth quarter, which lead to their 20-16 loss in Strawberry Stadium.

The game will be televised by Cox Sports Television, and to view the game in its entirety, check your local listing. Pre-game on radio from Strawberry Stadium starts at 2 p.m. with Ken Berthelot providing play-by-play, Seth Thomas with color commentary, and providing intellect from the sideline will be Brennan Matherene.
