GADSDEN, Alabama - The Nicholls men's golf squad fired a first-round 630 (321-309) on Monday at the Grub Mart-Young Oil Intercollegiate held at the 7,673 par 72 Silver Lakes Golf Course, which is part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The Colonels are in 12th heading into Tuesday's final round. Leading the Nicholls charge on Monday were freshmen Parham Booker and Jacob Lejeune. Booker, the Pace, Fla., native fired a 158 (80-78) in the opening round of 36 holes, while the Lejeune, the Sulphur, La., native also fired a 158 (82-76). Both golfers are in a tie for 46th. Junior James Terrebonne shot a 160 (80-80) and stands in a tie for 51st. Junior Marty Reed is in a tie for 54th after a round of 161 (79-82) while sophomore Ebenhaezer Van der Walt also sits in 54th after posting a first-round 161 (86-75) to round out scoring for Nicholls. Tournament host Jacksonville State holds a five-stroke advantage in the team competition after carding a 581 (287-294) in the first round. Gonzalo Berlin and Marcus Harrell of Jacksonville State and Cameron Carrico of Murray State are tied for the individual lead after the first round, shooting a 1-over 145.
