VAN DER WALT SITS IN 39TH PLACE AFTER ROUND ONE

MOBILE, Ala. - Junior Theunette Van der Walt finished tied for 39th after firing an 80 (39-41) during the first round of USA Lady Jaguar Invitational held at Azalea City Golf Course.

The Lady Colonels finished the opening round with a 329, which put them in 18th place, just nine shots out of the top 10.

East Tennessee State leads the pack with a 301, while Southern Mississippi (308), Lamar University (311), Belmont University (311) and Jacksonville State (312) round out the top five. McNeese State sits in sixth place with a 313, while the remaining field consists of Samford University (314), Kennesaw State University (314), Alabama-Birmingham (316), Austin Peay State University (318), Jackson State (320), Louisiana-Monroe (321), Middle Tennessee State (321), South Alabama (321), Winthrop University (324), Arkansas State University (327), Troy University (328) and Nicholls (329).

In the individual honors, Virginia Espejo of Southern Mississippi, Natalia Giraldo of East Tennessee State and Jamey Dillard of Middle Tennessee State each fired a one-over par 73 for a tie for first place.

Other Lady Colonel golfer included Emiley Patton (T48-81), Elyse Kinley (T70-84), Natalie Robinson (T70-84) and Daniele Dunlop (T81-85).

The final round of the 36-hole tournament will take place on Tuesday, March 4 with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
