THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls travels to play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend to close out the 2008 regular season, and they will be vying for a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. while Sunday's contest will be played at Noon in Corpus Christi, Texas. All three games can be heard on 640 AM KTIB with the play-by-play being provided by Joe Fakier. The Colonels (25-27, 12-14) enter this weekend needing one win to secure a spot in the SLC Tournament for the third consecutive season. If Nicholls falters and suffers a series sweep, they are eliminated from postseason contention. The other team trying to secure a spot in the tournament is the Islanders (21-27, 11-16) who the Colonels play this weekend. Nicholls currently stands eighth in the standings, while being stalked by TAMUCC in ninth. Nicholls is led by senior Kat Harrell at the plate with a .387 average, which currently ranks second in the conference heading into this weekend. Harrell also leads the league in triples (6) and is second in hits (65) this season. Standing out in the circle for the Colonels are sophomores Lacey Gros and Audrey Wood. Gros heads into this weekend boasting a team best 7-3 record, 2.60 ERA and 86 strikeouts, while Wood ranks second for the Colonels with a 6-6 record and a 2.72 ERA. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is led by Kim Connelly with a .370 average at the plate. Connelly leads the team in doubles (15), homeruns (7), RBIs (38) and fielding percentage (.985). She is one of three Islanders batting over .300 on the season. In the circle, the Islanders Larissa Martin leads the squad with a 3.88 ERA and a 7-11 record on the season.
