TENNIS SPLITS MATCHES WITH TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN



The women rebounded to win 4-3 after dropping the doubles point.

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls tennis teams split Friday afternoon's matches with Texas-Pan American. The women's team picked up a 4-3 win, while the men fell 5-2.

Despite dropping the doubles point, the Lady Colonels picked up four singles points to claim the victory.

Florina Nosca/Melissa Harrison defeated Giana Oliveira/Julia Cirne-Lima 8-5 at No. 1 doulbes. Anne-Claire Murier/Natalia Zamora dropped the No. 2 doubles match 8-3 to Silke Boksik/Megan Bedeau and Sanja Stanojcic/Sumana Kalyanasundram fell 8-6 to Stephanie Willerding/Luisa Cantu at No. 3.

Nosca won her No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-0 over Oliveira, but Murier fell 7-5, 6-4 in a tight No. 2 match with Cirne-Lima. Zomora defeated Bedeau 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3, and Harrison won 6-4, 6-4 over Willerding in the No. 4 match. Stanojcic took the No. 5 match 7-6, 7-6 from Boksik, but Kalyanasundram fell 6-2, 6-2 to Cantu at No. 6.

In the men's competition, Radu Ionescu/Vlad Popa defeated Andrew Irving/Ivon Avila 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. But the Colonels fell in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to drop the doubles point. At No. 2, Eric Fisher/Phenyo Matong fell 8-6 to Brett Bernstein/Ashwin Vijayaragavan, while Sami Mouline/Chris Hernandez dropped the No. 3 match 8-5 to Marcus Dornauf/Nirvick Mohinta.

The Colonels picked up singles wins at Nos. 1 and 3 as Ionescu defeated Avila 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 1 and Fisher defeated Mohinta 6-1, 6-1. With the win, Fisher remains undefeated in singles action on the season.

Vlad Popa fell 7-5, 7-5 to Vijayaragavan at No. 2 singles. At No. 4, Matong lost 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 to Irving. Gasca-Silav dropped the No. 5 match 6-3, 7-6 (4) to Bernstein, while Hernandez fell 6-0, 6-2 to Dornauf at No. 6.
