BATON ROUGE, La. - The Colonels had a strong showing in the Bayou Bengal Invite on Saturday with several school records being broken as the invite hosted by LSU. "I thought that we had a decent meet, and we improved in a lot of areas," said head coach Scott Williamson. "We are improving with every event that we participate in, and are running better as a team." In the Distance Medley, Nicholls' team of Imma Kosgei, Nicoya Hutcherson, Marion Chebet, and Eunice Jepkogei ran the second fastest time in school history in the race with a 13:10.93 showing. Also in the 4x400m relay, Leshea Jenkins, La Nation McCray, Sabrina Henkes, and Jarina Guilbeau combined to run the third fastest time in school history in the event with a 4:08.22 mark, which was almost a full second better than conference and in-state rival Southeastern La. Also running hard in the invite was Tiffany Nall who moved into second place in the Colonels' record books in the 200m with her time of 26.19. Nall's time was good enough for 11th place in the event out of 30 runners. Ashley Carpenter and Alycia Johnson also ran well in the 200m event with both of them climbing into the Top-5 all-time in school history. Carpenter's time of 26.49 moved her into third place as Johnson's showing of 26.96 was good enough for fifth in Nicholls' record books. Besides helping her 4x400m relay team, Jenkins did have a nice outing in the 400m run that moved her into fourth place all-time in school history. Jenkins ran a team best 61.44 in the 400m. Also improving on her personal best, which was good enough to earn a spot in the Top-5 performers list for Nicholls, was Charlotte Everhardt with a time of 11:04.28. Everhardt's time was good enough for fourth place out of 13 participants in the event, and also notched her fourth place in Nicholls' all-time record books. The Colonels will be back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Houston All-Comers event. ##### |
