HOUSTON, Tex. - In the University of Houston Bayou City Classic on Saturday, the Colonels represented Nicholls well as they broke several school records while others climbed further up the Top-5 all-time lists. "It was one of our best meets this season. It was a pretty good confidence boost for us with the SLC Championships coming up," said head coach Scott Williamson. Mid-year transfer Imma Kosgei set a new school record in the mile with her 5:18.45 time that was good enough to place eighth out of 28 runners in the competition. Of all the SLC runners in the one mile run, Kosgei finished the highest. Also setting a new record was Rahjanaye Bailey in the 60 meter hurdles with a 9.30 time in her preliminary run, but a few heats later, Dominique Harris broke that mark with her 9.27 finish. In the final run, Harris placed 16th with a 9.59 time while only one other runner from a SLC school finished higher than her. Harris wasn't done there as she continued on her tirade in rewriting the history books as she jumped a school record 5.42m. Her long jump won her first place in the Long Jump "B" section. Chelsea Dockery also had a good showing in the high jump as she broke her own school record with a jump of 1.64m. Dockery's personal best netted her an eighth place finish in the event out of 32 total participants. In the 4x400m relays, the Colonels' team of Leshea Jenkins, La-Nation McCray, Ashley Carpenter, and Sabrina Henkes set a new school record in the event with a 4:00.84 time that placed them fourth in the classic. Also having a solid performance in the classic was Charlotte Everhardt in the 5000m as she ran a personal of 18:55.13. Everhardt's time placed her third in the event while also cracking the school's Top-5 list. The Colonels will be back in action on February 22 when they take part in the SLC Championships in Houston, Tex. ####### |
