Junior Brian Livingston picked up a pair of wins against Wisconsin on Sunday.

Jan. 27, 2008

Madison, Wis.  - Despite a pair of victories from junior Brian Livingston (Skokie, Ill./Niles North), Northern Illinois was unable to sustain its momentum after winning the doubles point, as host Wisconsin earned the 5-2 win over the visiting Huskies at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Sunday morning.

With the win, Wisconsin improves to 3-0 overall, while the Huskies drop to 1-2 on the season.

Livingston and teammate Adam Ford (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) got the Huskies off on the right foot at No. 1 doubles as the duo upset nationally ranked Jeremy Sonkin and Luke Rassow-Kantor (No. 26), 9-8. Livingston would later defeat Sonkin at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5.

NIU senior Alex Friesen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Burnaby Central) and Jimmy Chu (Lima, Peru/San Augustin) teamed up at No. 2 doubles and cruised past Michael Dierberger and Marek Michalicka, 8-4.

The Huskies completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles, as junior Alfonso Monroy (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Aleman) and Diego Zegarra-Ballon (Lima, Peru/Markham College Prep) collected the 9-7 win over Peter Marrack and Michael Muskievicz.

"We did very well in doubles play and that was nice to see," NIU head men's tennis coach Pontus Hiort said. "We just need to get more consistent throughout our line-up. We played well in doubles, but unfortunately we weren't able to carry momentum in singles play."

NIU returns to action on Saturday, February 9, as they travel to Peoria, Illinois to square off with the Bradley Braves. First serve is set for 1 p.m. (CST).
