Rockford, Illinois - After a pair of heartbreaking 4-3 defeats, the Northern Illinois men's tennis team tasted victory with a 6-1 Mid-American Conference win over Chicago State at the Clock Tower Racquet Club on Wednesday afternoon.

The match was moved indoors due to high winds outside.

With the victory, NIU improves to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in MAC play, while the Cougars fall to 4-11 on the season and 1-4 in conference action.

"It's pretty nice to get back on the winning track after two tough losses," NIU head men's tennis coach Pontus Hiort said. "We were consistent throughout the lineup, but there's always room for improvement. I like the direction we're heading in."

As of late, NIU junior Brian Livingston (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) has been headed in the right direction, as the Skokie, Illinois native won his 13th consecutive match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Prakoso Imanuel. Livingston also teamed with Adam Ford (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) for the 8-2 win over Imanuel and his brother Prabowo Imanuel. Ford was victorious at No. 3 singles with the 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 come-from-behind win over Jonathon Sutjiadi.

NIU's No. 2 doubles team of Alex Friesen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Burnaby Central) and Jimmy Chu (Lima, Peru/San Augustin) got back on the right side of the win column with the 8-2 win over Abram Mamahit and Aumir Ahmad. Chu won at No. 4 singles with the 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Toni Todoric.

The Huskies completed the sweep of doubles play as senior Diego Zegarra-Ballon (Lima, Peru/Markham College Prep) and freshman Matt Hansen (Topeka, Kan./Miami Online (FL)) claimed the 8-4 win over Sutjiadi and Cameron Shanklin at No. 3. Hansen upended Mamahit, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Javier Bernabe (Segovia, Spain/IES Quintanilla) rounded out the day by blanking Ahmad, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
