DeKalb, Illinois - With the Mid-American Conference tournament around the corner, the Northern Illinois men's tennis team is peaking at the right time, as the Huskies posted the 7-0 shutout over IPFW at the Huskie Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.

"We were focused on the task at hand today," NIU head men's tennis coach Pontus Hiort said. "It was a good effort. To win two matches in a row is a nice little streak heading into this weekend's match against Western Michigan."

With the victory, NIU improves to 10-6 overall, while the Mastodons fall to 11-15 on the season.

NIU junior Brian Livingston (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) extended his singles winning streak to 14 matches with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Nathan Jones. Livingston also teamed with senior Adam Ford (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) for the 8-2 win over Jones and Francisco Sigaud. Ford was victorious at No. 3 singles with the 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Sigaud.

NIU's No. 2 doubles team of senior Alex Friesen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Burnaby Central) and junior Jimmy Chu (Lima, Peru/San Augustin) posted the 8-2 win over Hermann Kuschke and Renan Constantino. Friesen claimed the 6-2, 7-5 win over Kuschke at No. 2 singles, while Chu earned the 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Justin Collins at No. 4 singles.

The Huskies completed the sweep of doubles play as senior Diego Zegarra-Ballon (Lima, Peru/Markham College Prep) and freshman Matt Hansen (Topeka, Kan./Miami Online (FL)) claimed the 8-4 win over Collins and Diego Arteaga at No. 3. Hansen upended Constantino, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Javier Bernabe (Segovia, Spain/IES Quintanilla) put the final touches on the victory with the 6-1, 6-0 win over Arteaga at No. 6 singles.

NIU is back in action on Saturday (April 19) for their MAC finale against Western Michigan at the Huskie Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 1 p.m. (CST).
