Feb. 5, 2008

DEKALB, Ill.-The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is encouraging all of its fans to "Think Pink" on Saturday, February 16, 2008 when the Huskies take on Ohio University in the Convocation Center. Tip off for the game is at 2 p.m. (CT) and all women coming to the game will receive $2 admission. As part of a nationwide effort by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, NIU is dedicating the day to all those who have been affected by breast cancer.

Fans are encouraging to wear pink in support of breast cancer survivors. Pink will be the color of the day, as the Huskie team, coaches, staff and game-workers will all be sporting pink on Feb. 16. "Think Pink" bracelets will be on sale for $2 and NIU will be donating half of the day's ticket sales to the Kay Yow Foundation on behalf of the NIU women's basketball team. All breast cancer survivors will be invited onto the court for the starting line-ups and there will be a special recognition at halftime to honor breast cancer survivors.

In addition to Think Pink Day, NIU is participating in an NCAA initiative to raise awareness about women's basketball. Northern Illinois is attempting to break last season's top attendance mark of 1,082. NIU is in a competition with all Mid-American Conference schools and the conference winner competes with the winners of all the conferences across the nation.

The Ohio-Northern Illinois game will also be Girl Scout Day. Local Girl Scout troops can purchase tickets for $2 and an optional patch can be purchased for $3. Troops can meet the team and coaches after the game in the Circle of Fans. Troops registering before February 8th will receive in-game recognition. To register your Girl Scout troop, call Elaine Russell at 815-753-0801.

For tickets, contact the NIU ticket office at 815-752-6800 or log on to www.niuhuskies.com. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
