NIU Takes Seventh at the 2008 MAC Women's Golf Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -The Northern Illinois University women's golf team wrapped up its 2007-08 campaign finishing in seventh place at the 2008 MAC Women's Golf Championship at Brickyard Crossing hosted by Northern Illinois University.

The Huskies turned in their best round of the tournament, shooting a 322 Sunday, for a three-day total of 1308 (327-330-329-322). Sophmore Kim Hunley (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) turned in her best performance of the tournament, shooting a final-round 75 (37-38) to finish with a three-day total of 314 (76-83-80-75), tying for 13th.

"Kim saved our team total in the first round and the last round," NIU head coach Pam Tyska said. "We were able to edge in front of Bowling Green thanks to her great round. Abbie played very well today, saving her best for last."

Senior Abbie Many (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) saved the best for last. She shot a 79 in her final round as a Huskie. She finished the championship in a tie for 21st, shooting 321 for the tournament. Freshman Jessica Parmenter (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian) wrapped up her first MAC Championship tied for 35th after shooting a final round 85 finishing with a 339 (84-88-82-85). Ashley Lods (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) and Nicole Schultz (Somonauk, Ill./Somonauk) round out the Huskie competitors. Lods finished the tourney in 37th after carding a 340 (86-83-88-83) for the tournament, while Schultz took 39th after posting a 345

"In the beginning of this round I told the team that as good as we've been playing, especially in the second half of this spring, we just hadn't showed anybody what we can do," Tyska said. "That was our goal today to go out and post a number they put in and all the success they had.

Kent State continued its dominance, winning its 10th straight MAC Championship. The Golden Flashes shot 1177 (297-297-303-280) for the championship. Kent State's Kirby Dreher won the individual championship shooting a 291 (74-74-74-69).
