CHICAGO-The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team scored its first victory of the season when it defeated No. 19 Chicago, 4-3, Saturday.

"Our doubles looked really good. In singles play, University of Chicago came out firing on all cylinders. We just kept clawing, scrapping and fighting. It wasn't really pretty on our end but we found a way to win and we got it done. It was a true testament to how tough these kids are. A lot of credit goes to University of Chicago because they're going to really tough this year in Division III."

The Huskies (1-1) posted victories in Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles and in Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Dora Delgadillo (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Technologico de Estudios Superiores) had the best showing for NIU. Delgadillo, a senior, defeated Chicago's Cristina Simpetru, 6-0, 6-1. Brooke Forsberg (Moline, Ill./Moline) had a strong match, defeating Justine Kentla in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Jenny Edner (Stocksund, Sweden/Kamfors Gymnasiet) was pushed to a third set in her match, defeating Anuja Parikh, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

The doubles team of Edner and Nao Umemura (Kasugai-shi Aichi, Japan/Kardina International) defeated Chicago's Kenla and Chrissy Hu, 8-4 in No. 2 doubles, while Delgadillo and Katie Freidlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) posted an 8-3 victory in No. 3 doubles.

The Huskies are back in action Wednesday when NIU travels to Peoria to take on the Bradley University at 1 p.m.
