Statler Leaps to Eighth-Place at Drake Relays

SIU-E Twighlight Results

DES MOINES, Iowa - Sophomore Jessica Statler highlighted Northern Illinois women's track and field's weekend at the Drake Relays, placing eighth in the high jump.

Statler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) matched her season-high in the event with a 5-07 mark. Statler finished 3.5 inches short of the event winner, Louisville's Racheal Gehret. Senior Huskie Elizabeth Berquist placed 19th with a 5-05 jump.

In addition the the high jumpers, Northern Illinois athletes ran in two other events at the world-famous Drake Relays. Both the Huskie 4x200 and Sprint Medley teams placed 15th.

While some athletes competed at the Drake Relays, other travelled to Carbondale to partake in the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Twighlight Open.

Junior Shoshanna Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Romeoville) took second-place in the triple jump with a personal record 18-08 mark. Cora Caulfield (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant) placed fourth in the discus with personal record a 149-06 throw. Caulfield also took fourth in the shot put at 41-02, just ahead of teammate Meagan Guenther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park), who placed fifth with a 41-00 throw.

The Huskies return to action Apr. 3 for the Jack Shaw Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich., hosted by Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan.
