MVC Championships Results Day 1
The University of Northern Iowa women's golf team stands in third place after the opening day of competition Sunday at the State Farm MVC Golf Championships in Omaha, Neb., with a score of 314.
Southern Illinois owns a one-shot lead after the first 18 holes with a team score of 310. A pair of Salukis are tied for individual honors as Kelly Gerlach and Kate Laegeler each fired a 75 (+4) in the opening round Sunday. Additionally, Drake's Elena Vukmir aced the par-3, 165-yard 4th hole at Oak Hills Country Club. Vukmir used a 3-wood.
The sophomore duo of Molly Schemm (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and Ann Arnason (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River) led the Panthers tying for third place after the opening round; each fired a score of 76.
Redshirt freshman Sabrina Danielson (Pleasant Hill, Iowa/Southeast Polk) stands in 16th place with a first round score of 79. Kim Weber (Bernard, Iowa/Cascade) follows close behind. The junior stands tied for 27th place with a score of 83.
Shanon Davis (Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) and Heather Frye (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) are tied for 44th place with opening round scores of 87.
The 54-hole event continues Monday. Start time has been delayed two hours (until noon), due to the cold weather.
