Final Stats

Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team pushed its season record to record 7-2 edging Air Force, 4-3. The final score of the Panthers last three matches have been 4-3, with UNI winning two of those matches.

 

UNI started the match strong winning all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. Ashton Schwerin and Taynara Moraes teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 8-2 over the Falcons' Christine Abayan and Meghan Kiser. Carolina Hannes and Sampada Kanade topped Air Force's Katrina Eromin and Erika Shortridge 8-3, and Meghana Paritala and Laia Gonzalez-Garrido held off Erlyn Rudico and Lauren Wilson 8-7, 7-2 in a super tie-break.

 


 

 

Both teams spilt in singles play, with UNI winning the top three seeded matches. Paritala won her 82nd career match beating Abayan 7-5, 6-3 in No. 1 singles. She is one win shy of tying Kendra Lindeman and Maria McDonald for second place on the Panthers all-time wins list. Kanade held off Wilson in No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-4, and Gonzalez-Garrido topped Kiser 6-4, 6-2. Moraes lost a hard fought match against Samantha Sarkis 6-1, (6-7), 10-6 in a super tie-break.      

 

"This was a good hard fought match and we played really well in doubles today," head coach Sachin Kirtane said.

 

The Panthers will take on undefeated Nebraska (10-0) tomorrow at 11 a.m.
