Final Stats

Waterloo, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team fell 5-2 against Illinois State today at the Black Hawk Tennis Club. The Redbirds improve to 9-8 on the season and 3-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Panthers drop to 9-6 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

Illinois State won all three doubles matches and carried that momentum over to the singles matches. The Redbirds won four of the six singles matches led by Katri Miller's 6-1, 6-4 victory over UNI senior Meghana Paritala in No. 1 singles.

"We had a chance to win every match today, but we were unable to finish matches," head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "This was a really good match today and we just came up short."

Senior Carolina Hannes and junior Taynara Moraes were the lone Panthers to pick up victories in singles play. Hannes topped Katie O'Riley, 8-6 in No. 6 singles. The two played a shortened match because the Redbirds had already been determined the winner of the match. This was Hannes' 81st career victory as a Panther, and she needs four more wins to become the Panthers' all-time career wins leader. Moraes held off Carolyne Parent, 7-6, 0-6, 10-4 in No. 4 singles.

The Panthers will be back in action at home tomorrow at noon against Bradley.
