Final Stats

Wichita, Kan. - For the first time this season the UNI women's tennis team lost a match played on Saturday. Wichita State handed UNI its first setback on a Saturday, 7-0. The defending Missouri Valley Conference champions improve to 13-7 overall and 6-1 in MVC play, while the Panthers fall to 12-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Shockers have now four straight MVC matches.

 

The Shockers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over UNI by winning two of the three doubles matches. The UNI tandem of senior Carolina Hannes and freshman Laia Gonzalez-Garrido gave UNI its lone victory of the match in in No. 3 doubles over Torrie Browning and Florentina Hanisch, 8-3.

 

In singles play, Hannes, who is one victory away from being first on UNI's all-time career wins list by herself, lost in three-sets against Laryssa Ferreira, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 in No. 6 singles. Fellow senior Meghana Paritala also found herself on the short end of a three-set match falling to Florentina Hanisch, 5-7, 6-0, 10-6. Paritala currently sits in third on the Panthers' all-time career wins list.


 

 

 

The Shockers completed the sweep led by Stephanie Dalmacio's, 6-2, 6-0 win over sophomore Sampada Kanade in No. 1 singles, and Anna Egorova cruised in No. 3 singles over Gonzalez-Garrido, 6-3, 6-0. In No. 4 singles, Lenore Lazaroiu rolled past Taynara Moares, 6-2, 6-2, while Lenore Lazaroiu topped Diana Mendez, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 5 singles.

 

"Despite the final score we played a lot of close matches today," head coach Sachin Kiratne said. "We just need to regroup and get ready for our match tomorrow against Creighton"

  

The Panthers will complete its regular season slate tomorrow at Creighton at 10 a.m. With a win tomorrow the Panthers will finish no lower than fourth in the MVC.
