Volunteer coach Daniel Cruz joined the NJIT volleyball coaching staff for the start of the 2008 men's volleyball season.

A resident of East Orange, NJ, Cruz has previous experience coaching at the community college level in New Jersey. He began coaching as a baseball assistant at Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ in September 2003 and added duties as Bergen's head women's volleyball coach in 2004.

He moved on to Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ, becoming head women's volleyball coach and head baseball coach in July 2005.

A graduate of Bergen Community College and Coppin State College in Baltimore, MD, Cruz played baseball at both schools from 1998 to 2003. He later earned his master's in education from Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ, in 2006.

He has taught in the Paterson Public Schools since 2005 and as an adjunct mathematics professor at Passaic County Community College since 2006.
