A 2007 graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Melissa Golob joined the NJIT coaching staff as a graduate assistant in time for the start of the 2008 men's volleyball season.

Golob, who majored in biology and minored in psychology at UMBC, was a Division I women's volleyball player in college, competing for the Retrievers from 2003 to 2005.

She is also a graduate of Broadneck High School in Annapolis, MD, where she was an honor roll student in addition to being captain of the volleyball team.
