Six Lobo Skiers Named All-Conference
Feb. 25, 2008
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Six University of New Mexico skiers were named to the 2008 All-Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Team today. Junior Tor Fodnesbergene (men's Alpine) has been named to the team for the third year in a row, while freshmen Simon Reissmann (men's Nordic) and Thomas Schwab (men's Alpine) were honored for the first time. On the women's side, junior Karin Ohlin (women's Alpine) and sophomores Malin Hemmingsson (women's Alpine) and Polina Ermoshina (women's Nordic) are receiving the honor for a second time. "This is a great group to be honored," said Lobo head coach Fredrik Landstedt. "It shows our overall strength to have one representative in each discipline, even two in each Alpine group. These are just six of the 10 skiers that are going to NCAAs and they are all underclassmen who will be back next year." Fodnesbergene becomes the 23rd Lobo skier to be named all-conference in three or more years at New Mexico. The junior from Fagernes, Norway, earned the first-team honor as one of the top-five NCAA Alpine qualifiers. Schwab earned second-team honors one a top-10 NCAA qualifier. Reissmann was named to the Nordic second team for finishing in the top-10.
In addition to her first team honors, Hemmingsson also earned the RMISA Yellow Bib as the top NCAA qualifier in the giant slalom. Ermoshina was named to the first team for her top-five Nordic qualifying, while Ohlin was named to the second team for finishing among the top 10.
