Lobos Travel To State Capital For Saturday's Cherry-Silver Game

The University of New Mexico will wrap up the nation's latest spring football season on Saturday in Santa Fe with the annual Cherry-Silver Game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Santa Fe High School's Ivan Head Stadium and admission is free. There will be plenty of reasons for young Lobo fans to attend with the first 500 kids in attendance will receiving free Lobo football t-shirts (courtesy of the New Mexico Sports Authority), inflatable games at the stadium and a postgame autograph session. A complete video replay of the game will be available on the GoLobos.com ALL-ACCESS package on Saturday evening. The format of the game will feature the Cherry team, consisting of the No. 1 offense and defense versus the Silver team, made up of the up-and-coming second and third string units. The game will utilize traditional scoring, but with no live kickoffs or punting, and the quarterbacks off limits to contact. This will be the final opportunity to see the Lobo football team in action until training camp begins in early August. New Mexico, which is coming off a 9-4 campaign capped by the biggest bowl shutout in 11 years, had conducted a high intensity two-week spring practice season that concludes with an afternoon session on Wednesday and a early morning work out on Thursday. New Mexico hosts TCU on Aug. 30 in the 2008 season and Mountain West Conference opener. The opener will be the first of three consecutive nationally televised home games for the Lobos to open the season.
