May 9, 2008
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The scheduled series opener between Villanova and Rutgers on Friday afternoon has been postponed due to persistent heavy rain in the area. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon. This weekend's series is being played at Bainton Field on the Rutgers campus.
Saturday's doubleheader will feature two nine-inning games beginning at Noon. The series will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. Senior Jordan Ellis (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and sophomore Brian Streilein (Staten Island, N.Y.) are expected to make the starts for the Wildcats in Saturday's twin-bill.
Villanova and the Scarlet Knights are currently tied for eighth place and the final playoff spot in the BIG EAST regular season standings. There are six games remaining on the regular season schedule for both teams. The top eight teams in the 12-team league qualify for the conference tournament later this month.
